Louisiana Lottery Confirms $222.6 Million Powerball Win Monday

We'll have to ask our sources at the Louisiana Lottery in Baton Rouge if the "rule of three" applies to lottery games as it often does in celebrity deaths. You know the "rule of three", right?  If you're not familiar with it the "rule of three" is a popular assumption that if a famous person passes away, there will be two more other famous people to die in the next couple of days.

I know, it's quite dreadful and has really nothing to do with the Louisiana Lottery or the Powerball unless you believe that a winner on Saturday in the Mega Millions game, and now a winner on Monday in the Powerball game will lead to another big winner in one of the major lottery games available in Louisiana.

If you're banking on the "rule of three" to power your bank account then your next three big lottery drawings will come tonight, with Mega Millions and a jackpot of $30 million (estimated). Or on Wednesday when Powerball will restart its jackpot with a $20 million prize, Lotto will offer a top prize of $1.125 million or Easy 5 which boasts a jackpot of $90,000.

Use these numbers as a reference but before you attempt to cash your ticket please verify the numbers at either the Official Powerball Website or the Official Louisiana Lottery Website. Both of those sites allow you to input ticket numbers to verify that they are winners. The sites can also tell you exactly what your prize is and what steps you need to take to claim that prize.

Our sources at the Louisiana Lottery were able to confirm that a single ticket was a big winner in Monday's Powerball. Unfortunately, that confirmation showed the big ticket winner was not sold in Louisiana. Powerball game officials concurred with the Louisiana Lottery assessment and announced that the $222.6 million prize was attached to a ticket that was sold in New Jersey.

As of early this morning, the Louisiana Lottery Big Wins page had not updated its data so it is unclear if any wins of over $10,000 could be attributed to Louisiana-sold tickets. We can confirm that five tickets sold for Monday's drawing across the country earned a $50,000 prize while four more tickets earned that same prize but invoked the Power Play option of the game making their prize $100,000.
