Louisiana Lottery Confirms Saturday Powerball Win
The last time there was a big money Powerball win in Louisiana it was still November. That was up until last night's drawing. In the drawing for the multi-state lottery game for December 9th, there was no single ticket that claimed the game's top prize. That top prize was estimated to be just over $457 million by the way.
And while the Powerball jackpot will be even higher when they play the game on Monday, we can report to you that several tickets sold in Louisiana and Texas were winners. Some of those tickets were even "big winners". For our purposes we call a "big win" a prize of $10,000 or more. In Texas there were four tickets sold that can lay claim to prizes of $10,000 or more. And, in Louisiana, at least one ticket earned a prize of more than $10,000.
Here's how the drawing for December 8, 2023 and the Powerball unfolded.
Here are the numbers that were drawn:
05 25 26 40 60 Powerball 01 Power Play x 2
You may confirm those numbers when you visit the Powerball website. You will also be able to confirm that the prizes won in Louisiana and in Texas for Saturday's Powerball drawing were some of the largest prizes earned. There was only one Match 5 winner. That ticket matched all five of the white balls but not the Powerball. It was sold in New York and is worth one million dollars this morning.
The Texas Lottery is confirming two tickets sold in the Lone Star State earned prizes of $100,000. A third ticket sold in Texas was determined to be a $50,000 winner as well. The Texas Lottery does not publish point of purchase information on prizes of less than $1 million dollars.
The Louisiana Lottery has already confirmed the point of purchase for the $50,000 winner that was sold in The Boot. The Louisiana Lottery Big Wins page confirms the ticket matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball. The ticket purchaser did not opt for the Powerplay there for the prize is by rule, $50,000.
Lottery officials say the ticket was purchased in Metairie Louisiana at a convenience store/gas station on Causeway Blvd. If you purchased a Powerball ticket at TJMs Ritz, you really need to check your numbers.
Friday night two tickets sold in California matched the numbers needed to claim the Mega Millions top prize. The jackpot at the time of the drawing was estimated to be $395 million dollars. And in an odd twist of fate it has been revealed that both tickets were sold in the same gas station. It's unclear if the two tickets were purchased by the same person or the same family. But, we do know the two tickets will split the prize.
As far as the other Louisiana Lottery draw games go, the Lotto Jackpot continues to climb. It will be an estimated $1.525 million dollars when they draw again on Wednesday. The Easy 5 Jackpot is climbing too. It's now $110,000,estimated, and the next drawing in that game will be held on Wednesday as well.
The Powerball jackpot will jump to almost $480 million for Monday's drawing. As always we encourage responsible play, if you choose to play these or any lottery games of chance. If you need assistance with a gambling problem, call 1-877-770-STOP (7867). Good Luck.
