What do you get someone who is turning 100? Well, even you're about to break the century mark I don't think you'd ever come up with the gift idea that was presented to the Calcasieu Area Council Boy Scouts of America. The organization has announced they have been anonymously gifted some real estate, or should that be "unreal estate" on the surface of the Moon.

I guess we should mention that the Calcasieu Area Council Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. And because there has always been a correlation between Scouting and adventures, including space exploration, the gift just seems to be perfect. Especially when you consider that 20 out of the 24 astronauts who have been to the Moon were involved with scouting.

Executive Director for the Boy Scouts in Calcasieu Parish explained the situation to KPLC television reporter Amanda Sagram this way,

So a couple of weeks ago we got a package in the mail, 'Congratulations you have an acre of property on the moon!'

The property was described as being on the Lunar Alps near the Sea of Tranquility which is where Americans first set foot on the moon with the Apollo 11 mission.

As part of their centennial celebration, the Boy Scouts plan to hold a naming contest for their out of this world real estate gift. If you ask me, anything that keeps kids dreaming and looking beyond the boundaries of Earth is a good thing. Congratulations to the current members of the Boy Scouts and to all of those who have donned the uniform and recited the pledge. You do have a lot to be proud of.
