If you mention the word "Christmas" to someone in Louisiana, they'll most likely respond with a comment about the lights in Natchitoches. Or perhaps, they'll tell you of the time they strolled through the lights in the park in New Orleans. Or maybe they are one of the very first to see Louisiana's latest and newest Christmas attraction in Desoto Parish.

Those would all be great responses to hearing the word "Christmas". But the folks at Southern Living Magazine, like to dig a little deeper when they're investigating what's important to people in the South. So, they opted to add two words to the "Christmas" query, they added "cute" on the front and "town" on the back.

What Are The South's Cutest Christmas Towns?

Abigail Wilt a contributor for Southern Living Magazine compiled a collection of what she believes are the "cutest Christmas towns" in the south. She found 18 different communities, each with a unique twist on celebrating the holidays.  In addition to the charm, ambiance, and warmth of a community Wilt's survey also factored in fun, things to do, events, parades, and festivals.

So, there have got to be at least six towns in Louisiana on this list, right? No? Do you mean Natchitoches didn't make the "Cutest Christmas Town" list? Neither did New Orleans or Desoto Parish.

Only One Louisiana Town Made The "Cutest Christmas Towns" List

As you run through a list of Louisiana towns in your mind using "cuteness" as a criterion tell me when you get to Lutcher. It's okay, I have a minute. Still not there? Yeah, I don't mean to besmirch the good name and the good people of Lutcher but "cute" isn't the word I would use.

Now the reason Southern Living included Lutcher and St. James Parish on the list is easy to explain. It's all about the bonfires along the river at Christmas. It's a unique Louisiana tradition. It's a festival. It's a cookoff. It's just a whole lot of fun but I am going to stop short of calling it "cute".

If you'd like to see the complete Southern Living list of Cutest Christmas Towns you can view that right here. They have Lutcher listed at #8 right between Danville, Kentucky, and Cullman, Alabama. The community listed on top was Searcy, Arkansas. At least there you can see Arkansas' largest collection of Santas.
