Hikers have their trails. Golfers have their trails. Now drinkers can follow the Louisiana Brew Trail. With the literal explosion of craft breweries throughout the nation, the State of Louisiana decided to capitalize on one of our national past times, drinking.

Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne announced that his office has created this brewery trail to promote tourism in the state. Much like the wine country of California has its tours and tasting stops beer drinkers in Louisiana can experience a similar trip. The current brew trail has seven different breweries listed as stops. All of the breweries are easy to get to from either Interstate 10 or Interstate 12. The brewery trail not only offers information on the craft breweries but offers suggestions on nearby shopping and dining.

Those breweries that are currently listed on the tour are: Abita Brewing Company, Abita Springs; Bayou Teche Brewing, Arnaudville; Chafunkta Brewing Company, Mandeville; Covington Brewhouse, Covington; NOLA Brewing Company, New Orleans; Parish Brewing Company, Broussard and Tin Roof Brewing Company, Baton Rouge.

There are two more breweries that are expected to be included to the trail. Those two breweries are in the Shreveport area.
