Even though newly minted Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan won't be on hand to see her compete, it's still going to be a very special night for Faith Becnel on "American Idol." Tonight will mark the return to the reality singing competition for the Destrehan native, and her home state of Louisiana will be cheering her on once again.

You might remember 21-year-old Becnel from her appearances last year when she made it to the finals of the show, but not to the top 11. She wowed the judges and fans alike with her soulful renditions in Season 18.(See video below) And we'll have another chance to vote for our Louisiana girl starting tonight at 7:00 pm on ABC.

Due to the unusual circumstances of last season, which was squarely in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, the show producers decided to invite 10 of last season's finalists to compete for a spot on the show this year. And Becnel got the call.

She told the Advocate "I got a phone call from one of my producer friends and she told me since COVID happened last year, she wanted to give a few of us a chance to come back and really show our talent on the big stage with the lights and the glam, hair, and makeup. I freaked out, and I was shocked and it was a complete blessing and I was like, Definitely. I have nothing going on, so let's do it."

Becnel will appear tonight on "The Comeback", which was taped several weeks ago amid numerous COVID tests for the cast and crew. Viewers will have a week to vote for their favorite Idol alum to rejoin this season and compete.
