There has been a lot to be proud of for fans of the LSU Tigers in recent weeks. LSU Vice Chancellor and Athletic Director Joe Alleva took to the LSUsports.net website to pen an open letter to Tiger fans. The contents of this letter conveyed to Tiger fans the pride and the expectations he has for LSU student athletes and fans of the university.

Among the highlights of the letter were passages that praised the support and aid for flood victims in South Louisiana.

I’m proud to say that over the past week LSU coaches and student-athletes have been very active in our community, helping those in need by cleaning out damaged houses and offering comforting words of encouragement to families affected by this catastrophic event.

The LSU brand was also very well represented in the Rio Olympic Games that just concluded on Sunday. This was also noted by Alleva in his letter to Tiger supporters.

Four of our Tigers earned medals in Rio, including women’s basketball players Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles of the United States, who each claimed their third consecutive Olympic gold medal.Fitzroy Dunkley of Jamaica won a silver medal in the men’s 4 x 400 meter track and field relay, and Allysha Chapman of Canada captured a bronze medal in women’s soccer.

There is also anticipation for what many LSU fans are hoping will be a national championship football season. The season will open September 3rd in a nationally televised contest with Wisconsin from historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

We’re looking forward to being in Green Bay next month to kick off the football season, and we hope to see many of you there as we celebrate the virtues of college athletics in a grand setting.  The Tigers, ranked No. 5 in the Associated Press poll and No. 6 in the Coaches’ Poll, will have the chance to make an early impression upon the national gridiron landscape with a very tough test against the Wisconsin Badgers.

Alleva also commented on the new policy regarding items being brought in to home games at Tiger Stadium beginning with the home opener against Jacksonville State on September 10th.

As you prepare for the September 10 home game, please be aware that LSU has implemented a new clear bag policy for all of our athletic venues. Our university is committed to providing a safe environment on campus at all times, and the clear bag policy will promote stronger security and more efficiency in entering the stadium.

Needless to say expectations are high for athletes, supporters, and fans of the LSU Tigers this season. Here's to an exciting year that lives up to standards that Mr. Alleva has so eloquently stated.
