
LSU Becomes First College Ever to Sell Corporate Sponsor for Uniforms
BATON ROUGE, La. (KMDL-FM) - The LSU Athletics Department has announced they have entered into what they're calling a "Legacy Partnership" with a corporate sponsor, placing the company's logo on the uniforms of LSU student athletes across all sports. In doing so, LSU becomes the first school in NCAA history to sell a sponsorship like this, and some people have an opinion about it.
NCAA Approves Uniform Patches
In January of 2026, the NCAA officially approved patches for uniforms, opening up what is sure to be a quite lucrative new revenue streams for colleges to fund athletic departments. The money generated by the corporate sponsorships can be used to pay players.

Beginning Aug. 1, Division I teams can place up to two patches of no more than 4 square inches on uniforms for regular-season games. Those are in addition to the logos already allowed for the uniform manufacturers.

LSU Announces Sponsorship Partnership With Woodside Energy
On Monday, February 16, LSU made NCAA history by becoming the first college ever to sell a corporate sponsorship of the school's athletics, placing the company's logo on all LSU team sports uniforms.

Some people on social media aren't thrilled about it, with some saying that corporate sponsorships like this are going to "ruin college football". Others say "Iconic uniforms completely ruined".
