Major Crash on E Broussard in Lafayette as Vehicle Hits Utility Pole, Entergy Residents May Be Without Power
UPDATE: Lafayette Police say the crash involved a 52-year-old male. He was a passenger in the vehicle and remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
A preliminary on-scene investigation showed that the vehicle, for unknown reasons, traveled across the center line and left the roadway, striking two mailboxes, a utility pole, and a culvert.
Signs of impairment were observed by the driver, and a warrant was obtained for a blood sample to be taken.
The driver, a 43-year-old female, was arrested for First Offense OWI, First Degree Vehicular Negligent Injuring, and Careless Operation.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department's Traffic Unit.
The Lafayette Police Department responded to a major traffic crash this morning involving a single vehicle in the 200 block of E. Broussard Road.
The crash occurred around 3:27 am.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The passenger in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.
The utility pole that was struck belongs to Entergy, so residents in the immediate area may be without power. At this time, however, the Entergy website does not show any power outages in that area.
Commuters are asked to avoid the area right now as this stretch of E Broussard Rd has been closed until further notice.
For reference, the 300 block of E Broussard Road is just down from its intersection with Johnston Street.
We will update this story as new information becomes available.
