Man Attempts To Steal ATM With Backhoe In Mamou, Then Fires At Police

Mamou Police Chief Robert McGee reports the incident took place around 3:30 a.m. at Citizens Bank. The suspect is still at large.

KATC reports "the suspect tried to remove the cash machine with a backhoe.  Police arrived on the scene while the suspect was in the act.  McGee says the suspect then opened fire on a responding officer, firing approximately 11 rounds."

The suspect fled the scene without any money from the ATM.
