Masks Now Mandatory At The Heymann Performing Arts Center

Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory has announced that masks are now mandatory for events at the Heymann Performing Arts Center. The new mandate came in the form of a press release late Friday. Several dance studios have scheduled performances that had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Now more restrictions are coming out as cases begin to spike again. Guillory says,

“Requiring masks at Heymann Center events is a necessary step to ensure that these events are as safe as possible for everyone at the facility."

The Heymann was one of several venues that were initially closed as a cost-cutting measure, but arrangements were made for individual dance companies to pay a reduced rate for dance recitals to be held there. The penalty for not wearing masks includes being removed from the venue without a refund.

Mayor-President Josh Guillory signed a proclamation today making masks mandatory when attending events at the Heymann Performing Arts Center. Guillory recently reopened the venue to allow previously scheduled dance recitals, cancelled during the statewide shutdown, to reschedule performances this summer.

“Requiring masks at Heymann Center events is a necessary step to ensure that these events are as safe as possible for everyone at the facility,” Guillory said.

While inside the building at any event, employees, patrons, and performers are mandated to wear a mask at all times, with the exception of performers on stage during a performance; however, performers are required to wear a mask anytime they’re off the stage.

Violating the order may result in removal from the premises of the Heymann Performing Arts Center without refund.
