Earlier this month, Michael Lotief stepped aside as head coach of the Ragin’ Cajuns softball team. He has served as a volunteer assistant. Not anymore. Lotief will return as head coach, effective immediately.

Michael Lotief said, “I am renewed. There is no question in my mind that this athletics department, this university and this softball program are committed to the journey to pursue excellence.”

"I am happy that Michael will return as our head coach," said UL athletic director Scott Farmer in a statement. "The Louisiana softball program has matured and grown under Michael and Stefni Lotief and it is only fitting that a Lotief be in the dugout as its head coach.”

UL President Dr. Joseph Savoie also released the following statement on the matter:

“Michael’s extensive knowledge and experience have helped the Ragin’ Cajuns successfully compete with elite college teams during the past 12 years. The Cajuns are already having a strong season and I’m confident that his guidance will enable our players to reach their full potential.”

Lotief's squad will travel to Kissimmee, Florida this weekend to compete in the Diamond Citrus Classic. The 13th ranked Cajuns will play Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Texas, College of Charleston and Illinois State.
