Two Teenage Girls Wounded in Shooting at Moore Park After Gunfire Erupted in Large Group

Two teenage girls have suffered non-life-threatening injuries after gunfire erupted in a large group of people earlier this evening at Moore Park.

According to Lafayette Police, authorities are on the scene of a shooting that took place at the park (located at 250 Couret) just before 7:45 p.m.

Officers responded after receiving reports of gunshots being heard in the area. Officers arrived on the scene and located two female victims who were 17 and 18 years of age. Both females had been shot. Both females were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening wounds.

Based on their initial investigation, Lafayette Police determined that "a large group of people were at the park when multiple gunshots were fired."

Local Lafayette residents took to social media to warn fellow parents to check on their kids.

Local artist Cupid (real name Bryson Bernard) says he was coaching when a barrage of gunshots rang out.

Other parents were shocked as well, describing the activity around the area where the shooting took place.

Many pointed out the violence that has plagued the city over the last 48 hours—including a shooting incident earlier tonight on Surrey street.

We reached out to Sr. Cpl. Matthew Benoit with LPD to find out if they believe both shooting incidents from tonight to be connected but have not heard any word back at this time.

According to a release from Lafayette Police on the Surrey Street shooting, the teenage girl hit in that incident was reportedly struck by bullet fragments as a result of individuals firing at one another from 2-3 separate vehicles while stopped in traffic.
