Naked Tourist Blamed For Malaysian Earthquake

If you want further proof that we are a "same planet / different worlds" society then please consider the story that is coming out of Malaysia. According to news reports a group of western tourist are not being allowed to leave that country because government officials believe they were the cause of a devastating earthquake.

Before you think to yourself there is no way this can be true. Believe it. Malaysia is governed and ruled in an entirely different manner than we are used to seeing in the western world. Here is what happened.

A group of tourist climbed to the top summit of Mount Kinabalu last month. Upon reaching the summit the group decided to pose for a photograph. They chose to disrobe and celebrate their accomplishment in the nude. A little strange? Perhaps but anyone who climbs mountains should be considered at least a little strange.

It was shortly after that incident that a massive earthquake struck the region. The quake registered 5.9 on the Richter scale.  Authorities in the Malaysia believe the tourist "disrespecting " the mountain is the sole reason for the disaster.

Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah , Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan told the Digital Journal,

Whether other people believe this or not, it’s what we Sabahans believe. When the earthquake happened, it’s like a confirmation of our beliefs.There is almost certainly a connection. We have to take this as a reminder that local beliefs and customs are not to be disrespected.
