New Iberia Police Searching for Suspect After Car Crashes With Person Dead Inside
The New Iberia Police Department is currently looking for a homicide suspect in connection to a car crash on Tuesday evening (2/28/23).
Officers with the Department's Uniformed Patrol Division responded to a crash around 9:30 pm on Tuesday at the intersection of Iberia Street and Ambassador W. Lemelle Drive.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that a male inside the vehicle had a single gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
There were four other individuals inside the vehicle as well, including a juvenile.
After an investigation by the NIPD, a suspect was named. That person is Jatavist Markal "Latay" Reedom. He is a black male, approximately 5'10" and 150 pounds.
Reedom is being charged with the following:
- 1 Count of First-Degree Murder
- 4 Counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder
- 1 Count of Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
