If you're a smoker in Louisiana, there's now another reason to quit. Starting April 1st, yet another cigarette tax goes into effect.

The Louisiana Senate voted 33-2 Saturday passing 22-cent per pack cigarette tax hike. The new tax grows from 86 cents per pack to $1.08.

We all know the dire financial situation Louisiana is facing, and this new cigarette tax is one of a handful of forthcoming taxes that are aimed as a way out of our fiscal hole.

Gov. John Bel Edwards supports the tax increase sponsored by New Orleans Rep. Walt Leger.

The new cigarette tax is estimated to bring in $46 million annually.
