From Nola.com -

The moment I saw him, he had a smile, he would come shake my hand. He always had something funny to say about himself and the other officers. Just a great guy to be around. He's a tremendous asset to the New Orleans Police Department, and he will truly be missed.

Officer Bordes had no know medical conditions.
