(KMDL-FM) I have to admit, it's been a lot easier to like Nick Saban ever since he stepped down as head coach of the University of Alabama's football program. We liked him a lot when he was coaching at LSU, but something about seeing Coach Saban in red just didn't sit well with a lot of us along the bayou.

Love him or hate him, if you're a fan of college football, you have to have an appreciation of Nick Saban. Currently, and this is subject to change without notice due to the volatile nature of college football these days, there are 18 current FBS Head Coaches who once served under Saban.

The list of coaches reads like a Who's Who; there is Kirby Smart from Georgia, Lane Kiffin, new to LSU, Mario Cristobal at Miami, and Curt Cignetti of Indiana. The last two coaches just faced each other in the College Football Playoff Championship game.

As you might imagine, Coach Saban and his lovely bride, "Miss Terry," have a lot of stories to share not only about football but about life in the world of college football. This is why Words+Pictures Productions has announced plans to air a six-part series about the life and times of Nick Saban.

The six-part series will air on ESPN and is taken from some 30 hours of interviews with Saban and Miss Terry, as well as more than 80 interviews with the people who were involved with the Sabans during his coaching career.

The series will not just focus on Saban's time in Tuscaloosa. There will also be featured segments on his time with the Miami Dolphins and the LSU Tigers. Saban's early years at Michigan State will also be included as part of the series.

What Will the Nick Saban Six-Part Series Be Called and When Will it Air?

The series will simply be called SabanThe series is currently in production, but air dates have not been officially announced. If I had to guess, I would imagine ESPN will hold this until much closer to the start of the upcoming college football season.

Which, by the way, will kick off with "Week Zero" games on August 29th. The majority of teams will kick off their seasons the following week. LSU will open at Tiger Stadium on September 5th against Clemson. Meanwhile, Alabama will open against East Carolina on that same day.
