Overnight Fire Damages Lafayette Parish Home
As the clock was striking midnight across Acadiana early this morning fire crews from multiple departments across the area were still on the scene of a residential fire in Lafayette Parish. According to KATC television, fire crews from Duson, Judice, and Scott were supported by departments from Milton, Carencro, and Lafayette to help quell the blaze.
Fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire at the home in the 2100 block of Richfield Road. When fire crews arrived on the scene they found that the attic of the home was fully involved. It was a short time later that the roof collapsed. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported to first responders or residents at the scene.
Duson Fire Chief Coby Duhon said that Richfield Road was closed for a short time in both directions while crews worked the fire. The Chief also explained the reason for such a large response to a single dwelling fire. The reason so many trucks were called to the scene is that in rural areas fire hydrants might not be readily accessible. Hence the need for more units and water tanks.
