Lafayette Parish Leads Louisiana in Population Growth
LAFAYETTE, La. (KMDL-FM) - Does it seems like traffic around Lafayette Parish has been extra busy lately, especially over the past two years? Well, it actually has been, and there's a reason for it.
Lafayette Parish is once again at the top of the list when it comes to population growth in Louisiana, marking the second consecutive year the Acadiana hub has outpaced the rest of the state.
Lafayette Parish Continues To Outpace Louisiana
Newly released data shows that while many areas across Louisiana are still struggling with population decline, Lafayette Parish continues to attract new residents and maintain steady growth.
According to the latest census-based data, Lafayette Parish recorded the highest population increase in Louisiana for the second year in a row. This continued growth highlights the Lafayette area's strong appeal compared to other parts of Louisiana.

While Louisiana as a whole has faced years of population loss, recent trends suggest a shift, with some areas, especially in Acadiana, beginning to rebound.

We were really excited to see the news this week with the new Census number that came out. For the second straight year, Lafayette Parish had the highest population growth of any Louisiana parish.
That can be attributed to a variety of reasons, but ultimately, it's people deciding that Lafayette Parish is a great place to live.

Population trends across Louisiana tell a much different story. Many larger cities, including New Orleans and Shreveport, have experienced declines in recent years.
Cities like Youngsville, Broussard, and Carencro have seen significant growth, helping drive the overall increase in Lafayette Parish.
Why More People Are Moving To Lafayette Parish
According to KADN, Lafayette Parish now has more than 257,000 residents, a 3,200-person increase from a year ago.
People are flocking to Lafayette Parish for several reasons including affordable cost of living compared to larger Louisiana cities, strong job market in healthcare, energy, and technology, expanding suburban communities with new housing developments, and of course the culture and quality of life in the heart of Acadiana.
