St. Peters Catholic Church Renovations

The first mass in the newly renovated St. Peter's Catholic Church in Carencro was celebrated Wednesday night when young people in the parish were confirmed by Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel.

The church was established in 1874. The main altar was purchased and brought to Acadiana in 1893, where it sat in the Cathedral of St. John. It was then donated to St. Peter's. Contractors restored and reinstalled it during the current renovation. It is Baroque architecture and was hand-carved in Belgium.

The steeple was redone, new stained glass windows were added or old ones replaced, intricately carved wooden accents were cleaned and resealed or painted, and the whole church was given a beautiful facelift under the supervision of its pastor Father Mark LeDoux.

Before renovations to the actual church began, work was done on the parish hall so that mass could be held there. A new Adoration Chapel was also built. It opened the night before Easter.

St. Peter's has had a capital campaign going on to raise $2.5-million to fund the project and, according the church website, they have raised nearly $2.1-million.

Mass is offered on Sundays at St. Peter's at 7AM, 10AM, and 5:30PM. They offer a Saturday vigil at 4PM. Daily mass is offered Monday through Friday at 6:30AM.
