Kacey Musgraves, Eric Church and More Come Together for Roger Miller Tribute Album
Roger Miller's legendary career in country music will be the centerpiece of a tribute album created in his honor. Stars including Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves, Willie Nelson and Ringo Starr have all contributed to the two-disc set, which will be released on Aug. 31.
King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller will include both Miller's mega-hits such as "Dang Me" and "King of the Road" and his lesser-known offerings, including "Oo De Lally," written for Disney's 1973 animated version of Robin Hood. Artists of all stripes and across the genre spectrum are on board for the comprehensive, 35-track project.
"We tried to bring both big names and newer, lesser-known artists to the project to show how far reaching my father’s influence was," Miller's son, Dean Miller, tells the Tennessean. The tribute includes a contribution from Brad Paisley and a Dolly Parton / Alison Krauss duet, alongside renditions by Toad the Wet Sprocket and Cake; the tracklist for King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller reads like a who's who list of all corners of the music world.
The project will be released on BMG Records.
