Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly Holograms Will Share the Stage on Rock ‘n’ Roll Dream Tour
Two late icons will be honored in a special hologram tour planned to launch in October of 2019. The holograms of Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly will split the stage for the show, which is billed as the Rock 'n' Roll Dream Tour and will feature a live band and back-up vocalists. Tickets will go on sale beginning Friday (March 29) at 9AM GMT.
It isn't the first time that Orbison's hologram has hit the road, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. In 2018, the late superstar's estate launched a hologram tour that spanned the UK, in a performance backed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. BASE Hologram, which created that project, is also behind the 2019 trek that pairs Orbison's hologram with Holly's.
In a statement reprinted in Rolling Stone, Roy Orbison Jr. -- the late legend's son and the President of Roy Orbison Music -- reflected on the two artist's personal friendship, and how fitting it is that their holograms will appear together in front of fans.
"My father's music meant the world to not just us Orbisons, but to millions of fans worldwide," he explains. "Being able to reopen his legendary songbook and once again hear his voice bounce off great concert hall walls is both a transcendent and cathartic experience. Dad jammed with Buddy in Lubbock, Texas, and helped change music history by turning Buddy on to Norman Petty Studios; Buddy later returned the favor by recording two of Dad's songs on his first Crickets' album. How beyond cool and special that these two great friends now get to tour the world together."
As of now, the tour's website only reflects UK dates for the Rock 'n' Roll Dream Tour. Stay tuned for more information.
