Saints Release Jermon Bushrod

The New Orleans Saints released a former Pro Bowl player on Saturday.

The team released veteran offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod, while promoting running back Jonathan Williams from the practice squad.

Jermon Bushrod, who spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints (2007-2012), left the team following the 2012 campaign, after signing a five-year, $35.9 million deal with the Chicago Bears.

A native of King George, Virginia, Bushrod spent three seasons with the Bears (2013-2015), before playing the last two years for the Miami Dolphins.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Bushrod signed a one-year deal to return to the Saints back in March, prior to being released on Saturday.

The 34-year old Bushrod, who played his college football at Towson, was drafted in the the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by New Orleans, where he became a starter in 2009, and a Pro Bowler in both the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

The 24-year old Williams, who played his college football at Arkansas, played the 2016 with the Buffalo Bills, opened the 2017 campaign on the practice squad of the Denver Broncos, before being signed by the Saints back in November.
