Officials with Carnival Cruise lines say the Mexican Navy is now involved in the search for a passenger that was reported overboard on Sunday night. According to reports, the person in question was aboard the Carnival Triumph as it set sail out of New Orleans Saturday on a five-day cruise to Mexico.

Officials with Carnival Cruise line reported that a female passenger went overboard Sunday evening off the coast of Mexico. Mexico's Secretaria de Marina is now in charge of what is still being called a search and rescue mission.

The Carnival Triumph was given clearance by Mexican authorities to continue on its voyage which should include a stop in Progresso Mexico today and final disembarkation in New Orleans on Thursday.

No details other than the passenger in question is a 44-year old female have been released at this time. This is the second incident involving a passenger and a Carnival Cruise ship in the past week. Last Friday a passenger on board the Carnival Elation died after falling from her stateroom balcony.
