Sheriff Deputy Shot in Vernon Parish
The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred around 4:00 on Sunday afternoon.
A deputy responded to a domestic disturbance call on Magnolia Street in New Llano (just south of Leesville). Upon arrival he exited his vehicle and was immediately met by the suspect, 60-year-old Bobby Hinton.
Within seconds of the deputy exiting his vehicle, Hinton pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at him. One round struck the deputy in the forearm while the other hit the patrol unit.
The deputy returned fire, striking Hinton. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Hinton was later pronounced dead.
The deputy was later transported to Alexandria for further treatment and is listed in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
