Shocking Louisiana Crawfish News: How Much Per Pound?
On Tuesday the calendar will flip over to April in Lafayette, Henderson, Jennings, and Abbeville, and while the official time document, the calendar, may say spring. Those in Louisiana know that the first week of April is when the heart of the crawfish season hits.
And lately, Louisiana crawfish lovers have been taking that punch in the form of short supplies and higher prices. A lot of those residual price points were leftover from the historic drought a season ago. But there is good news on the horizon. It's actually great news if you compare it to those seasons that were affected by drought or other outside weather factors.
According to the Crawfish App, a statewide application dedicated to connecting crawfish lovers to crawfish there has been a significant drop in the price of crawfish as we head into Easter Sunday which falls on April 20, 2025. The even better news for consumers is that prices are expected to go even lower while supply and quality are on the rise.
KATC Television is reporting via their Crawdaq Index that the price (ending last week) per pound was $6.58 in an average five-pound order. That price reflected a drop of three percent compared to last week's prices and a savings of about a dollar per pound compared to prices from one year ago.
The downward drop in prices reflects a two-week trend that many agriculture experts expect to continue at least through Good Friday. Consumers are reporting no trouble in finding both boiled and live crawfish in great supply. In most cases, the quality is robust and the sizes are good too.
