Thousands have signed a petition on that seeks to replace statues of Confederate soldiers in Louisiana with pop star Britney Spears.

Rayne native and petition creator, Kassie Thibodeaux, says Spears is a Louisiana hero who should be memorialized.

“Right now in her Vegas show, she’s donating some of the money from her ticket sales to the recent New Orleans flood to the schools.”

Spears is a native of Kentwood. Thibodeaux calls Spears a role model for women. The petition has received nearly 4,000 signatures.

“I didn’t expect anything to happen, so I’m really shocked by everything.”

Thibodeaux hopes to catch the attention of Governor John Bel Edwards, our U.S. Senators, Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy, and a certain famous singer.

“I doubt it will happen but I just want Britney to see it.”
