One man is dead in New Iberia after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole.

Around 4pm today, Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on South Lewis Street near its intersection with Oil Center Drive.

The investigation revealed that the driver failed to negotiate a curve while traveling south on South Lewis Street, causing him to swerve off the road and hit a utility pole.

The driver, who has been identified as 58-year-old Nyron G. Derouen, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Alcohol consumption is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology samples have been obtained and are pending analysis by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
