South Louisiana High School Teams Fare Well in Sportswriters Poll
Louisiana loves its football. We show that by showing up for the Saints on Sunday. The LSU Tigers, Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, and McNeese Cowboys on Saturday, and on Friday (sometimes Thursday) we are all in on our high school football too.
I think high school football actually carries more passion in Louisiana than the college or pro game does, it's just captured in the smaller pockets of our state's smaller communities. This is truly a case of "If you know, you know" when it comes to the passion and power of high school football across the state.
Most of the teams across Louisiana are about one-third of the way through their schedule. And here at the three-week mark is a good time to get a reset on who is doing what across the high school landscape.
The Louisiana Sportswriters Association publishes weekly polls during the high school season. This gives us fans some points to ponder and always adds fuel to the fire when playoff pairings are discussed. This year the LHSAA will announce the playoff pairings for High School Football on November 5th. The playoffs begin on November 9th so you see we are further along in the season than you probably thought.
What Are This Week's LSWA Poll Rankings?
After last week's action, there were no changes atop any of the LSWA polls that were released and published this week. Your top schools in Louisiana are John Curtis in 5A, St Thomas More in 4A, University High in 3A, Calvary Baptist in 2A, and Ouichita Christian in 1A.
As far as Acadiana schools are concerned in the 5A classification Carencro is ranked at #6 while Acadiana is ranked #9. In the 4A classification, St. Thomas More is #1 with Lafayette Christian Academy ranked at #2. Those two schools are scheduled to meet face-to-face on November 3rd to close out the season.
Also in the 4A classification, Westgate is ranked #4. Teurlings Catholic is positioned at #9 and Opelousas rounds out the top 10 in the 4A class. No Acadiana schools were included in the Top 10 for Class 3A. For Class 2A Notre Dame is ranked at #4 and Loreauville is ranked at #10. For Class 1A Vermilion Catholic was the #3 choice by the writers of the LSWA.
You can view the entire Top 10 rankings for each classification right here. With still about seven games or so left on the schedule there is still time for many of these programs to make a big move in the power rankings and the playoffs before that first weekend in November. Good luck to your team.
