SSI Recipients to Get Stimulus Checks Automatically
Americans on Social Security I have great news for you concerning those government stimulus checks. The Internal Revenue Service announced last night that those who receive SSI benefits will automatically receive a stimulus check as part of the government's coronavirus recovery plan.
The statement released by the IRS last night clarified the confusion over what did or did not need to be filled out in order for SSI recipients to benefit from the stimulus plan.
Social Security recipients will automatically receive economic impact payments without the need to file taxes for 2018 or 2019.
As of now, Americans who don't file taxes and are not currently on Social Security will still need to file a return in order to get the one-time stipend. Those stimulus checks are supposed to be going out to Americans who qualify in the next three weeks.
If you do not have a bank account on file with the IRS then you will need to wait a week or two. They plan on opening a portal on the internet where taxpayers can provide banking information so they might receive those stimulus checks through direct deposit instead of waiting on a check in the mail. That portal will not be available for at least a few weeks.
