USA Today has an online competition to crown the Best High School Football Coach in America and St. Thomas More's Jim Hightower is in the running.

Coach Hightower actually won the Louisiana crown and has moved on to the "regional" round of the competition. He is up against five other coaches from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah in this round.

The winner of each regional round will move on to the final competition. There are eight regions total. Voting for this round ends on October 18 at 11am.

In addition to the national attention, there are some nice prizes attached to finishing well in the competition. The athletic department of the winning coach will receive $2,000. Second through fifth places also receive cash prizes for the athletic departments: second ($1,000), third ($500), fourth ($250) and fifth ($100). All eight finalists receive banners for their schools.

By the way, Coach Jim Hightower is one of the winningest coaches in Louisiana high school football history with a record of 357-117-1. He has 21 district championships, seven state semifinal appearances and one state title.

Spread the word and let's get Coach some votes!
