Is it ever not Mardi Gras season in Louisiana? The joie de vivre that goes with the annual celebration of good times and great friends does seem to stay with us throughout the year. That's why I'm not surprised that one Acadiana community is taking action for Mardi Gras 2020 today.

The town of Sunset has announced that they will be adjusting the date of their annual Mardi Gras parade and festivities associated with that parade. The Sunset parade has traditionally been held on Mardi Gras Day.

However, officials voted to move that parade to the Saturday before Mardi Gras. In the year 2020, that date will be Saturday, February 22nd. Mardi Gras Day will be on the 25th of February.

Town officials explained the reason for the change of date this way. Mardi Gras Day already includes a lot of attention with parades and celebrations in nearby Church Point and Mamou. Those celebrations really garner the attention of tourists and guests with their traditional Mardi Gras couriers.

Officials believe by moving the Sunset parade to Saturday it will give more people and businesses an opportunity to participate without having to choose between so many celebrations.
