Tex Mex Restaurant Ordered To Pay Back Wages
There are several Acadiana area locations of El Paso Mexican Grill. There are two locations in Lafayette as well as locations in Lake Charles, Crowley, and New Iberia. The U.S. Department of Labor has notified the restaurant chain that it owes hundreds of employees over $650,000 in back wages to employees of its Florida and Louisiana locations.
According to the Department of Labor, the chain failed to pay employees for hours worked, deducted costs of uniforms from employees checks, fail to properly compensate employees for overtime hours, improperly compensated tipped employees, and did not maintain accurate records where payroll is concerned.
The order affects 50 employees in the Lafayette stores alone. According to the Department of Labor, those employees are entitled to a portion of slightly more than $50,000 in compensation.
