Texas Road Construction Could Be Headache For I-10 Travelers This Weekend
If you have travel plans that take you west of Lake Charles this weekend and your route of choice happens to be Interstate 10 you might want to rethink your travels. The Texas Department of Transportation has issued a press release advising drivers in Louisiana about some anticipated slowdowns on the Interstate beginning Friday evening at 7 PM. The lane closures and detours are anticipated to be cleared by 7 AM Monday, April 3rd.
The construction zone will be located approximately 2.5 miles west of the Texas/Louisiana border. State police in Texas are advising motorist to plan for delays and a detour to help move traffic around a construction site where I-10 and Texas State Highway 87 intersect. The construction project will be focused on completeing an overpass for SH 87.
Here's the official release from TXDOT:
The Texas Department of Transportation has a major traffic detour scheduled March 31-April 3. All I-10 eastbound traffic will be detoured to the frontage road at the SH 87 exit and re-enter the interstate just past N 8th Street. Westbound I-10 traffic will be down to one lane during this time as well. In addition to the main lane closures, SH 87 at I-10 will be closed during this period. The closure will take place from 7 p.m. March 31 to 7 a.m. April 3. The closure is necessary for the construction of the new SH 87 overpass currently being built as part of the I-10 reconstruction project from Adams Bayou to the Sabine River.
