There was a farming accident that has affected an 8 inch water line in New Iberia, and because of that, the Bayou Teche Water Works Water System has issued a boil advisory.

This means you will need to boil your water ( a rolling boil) for three minutes before you consume or use.

Workers are working to fix the problem right now, but the advisory will continue until the repairs have been completed.

The areas that must boil there water are the following:

  • Customers along Cemetery Highway (La Hwy 347)
  • Customers along La Hwy 31 and all roads connected to Cemetery Highway
  • Customers along La Hwy 31 between New Iberia and St. Martinville
  • Customrer along Daspit road from Cemetery Highway to New Iberia

Here is some more information from the Public Works Department:

What should I do? • DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a rolling boil  for at least (3) three minutes, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and  food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.   ALL STORED WATER, DRINK OR ICE MADE RECENTLY FROM THIS SUPPLY SHALL  BE DISCARDED.

You can get bacteria that can make you severly ill from water that has remained stagnant or that has not been treated. Refrain from drinking the well, unless you boil it, until further notice.
