If you watch a scary movie with the sound down most of the time it isn't that scary at all. The sound effects and the music in particular really set the mood for a scary film.

Have you ever wondered what instrument makes those scary sounds and horrific music? It's called a Waterphone and it looks like a drain stopper with a bunch of spikes driven through its heart. The Waterphone is played with a mallet much like a xylophone would be played but the sounds it produces are incredibly eerie.
