Theme Park Re-Evaluating ‘Seuss Landing’ After Controversy

The fallout over the recent controversy concerning Dr. Seuss's books continues. In case you missed it, earlier this week Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced that would cease publication of several of the author's most famous books, that they have now deemed portrayals of "people in ways that are hurtful and wrong." Those books are:

• "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street"
• "If I Ran the Zoo"
• "McElligot's Pool"
• "On Beyond Zebra!"
• "Scrambled Eggs Super!"
• "The Cat's Quizzer"

So, evidently, the decision has also affected one of the most popular theme/amusement parks in the USA. The Universal Orlando Resort recently told Entertainment Weekly that they are currently re-evaluating their popular "Seuss Landing" themed section of their Islands of Adventure Park. A park spokesperson says "Seuss Landing continues to be very popular with our guests and we value our relationship with Seuss Enterprises. We've removed the books from our shelves as they have asked and we'll be evaluating our in-park experience, too." But for now, it looks like guests at the park will still be able to enjoy "Seuss Landing" until further review.

Even more than 30 years after his death, Dr Theodore Geisel remains a beloved figure in pop culture, amid the ongoing controversy. He was ranked second on the annual Forbes list of highest-paid dead celebrities in 2020, earning a whopping $33 million dollars just last year.
