(KMDL-FM) I think we've all had this dream at some point in our adult lives. We wake up on a beautiful fall morning and enjoy our coffee on the porch of a log cabin, facing a glorious lake and a stunning sunrise. Now, where should that cabin be located? A group out of Texas is trying to answer that for you. They've compiled a Top 135 Places in the United States to Own a Log Cabin list. Three of those places are in Louisiana.

The results of a survey were posted by Texas Real Estate Source, and in that survey, more than 3,000 Americans were asked where they would put a log cabin in the United States if they could. The answers ranged from mountain vistas to beachfront hideaways and secluded off-the-grid spots as well.

It is not surprising that some of the more popular answers involve parts of the country already known for their breathtaking outdoor views. The top choice on the list was Estes Park, Colorado. I can't say I would argue with that choice.

What Locations Made the Top 10 List - Best Place to Put a Log Cabin?

Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain were number four on the list. The Great Smoky Mountains, just up the road from Chattanooga, also made the top ten. That locale came in at number seven. And the closest location to Louisiana, with a top ten choice in the "Best Place to Put a Cabin" survey, was Newton and Johnson Counties in Arkansas. If those county names don't ring a bell, just know they are in the heart of the Ozark Mountains.

For Louisiana's first location on the "Best Place for a Cabin List," you have to scroll down quite a bit. We don't have any locations in the top 20, the top 50, or even the top 80. But at number 88, we do find Toledo Bend Reservoir in Sabine and Desoto Parishes.

Toledo Bend is known as a great getaway for fishermen and those who love boating and watersports. The pace around Toledo Bend is slow and easy and very conducive to relaxing. It's pretty easy to see why this choice earned a spot on the list.

Louisiana's second choice on this survey comes in at number 111. The spot is just below the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia and just above Lake Guntersville in Alabama on the list. And the Louisiana location is Kisatchie National Forest in Natchitoches Parish.

Kisatchie National Forest is a great place to wander and reconnect with nature and your inner animal. The forest is everything you'd want for a relaxing backdrop for your cabin. That's why it made the list.

Louisiana's third and final entry on the Texas Real Estate Group list comes in at number 130. So, it just squeaked in under the top 135 limit. But if you've ever been to this place, you'd probably rate it a lot higher. The third Louisiana choice for the best place to put a log cabin is Lake Bruin and the Tensas River Basin in Tensas Parish, Louisiana.

A friend recently camped there and spoke very highly of the place. The accommodations in and around the lake are more than adequate, and the scenery and the vibe are exactly the mood you would be looking for if you were wanting to "escape" from the modern world.
