Toby Keith Performs ‘Red Solo Cup’ on ‘Ellen’
If you listen to country radio at all, and we know you do, you know to watch this video clip at your own risk. Toby Keith performed his can’t-ever-get-it-out-of-your-head catchy hit ‘Red Solo Cup’ today on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ and the audience seemed to love the creative drinking anthem. Keith even cut the music right in the middle of the song to really play up the part where he proclaims that the cup is more like a friend to him than anything.
After Keith’s swinging and swigging performance, DeGeneres announced to her pleased audience that everyone would be going home with a copy of the country star’s 2011 record ‘Clancy’s Tavern.’ Keith is currently up for two 2012 ACM Awards for Single Record of the Year and Video of the Year, both for his surprise hit ‘Red Solo Cup.’ He’ll be making an appearance at the ACM Awards April 1, performing alongside a cast of country hitmakers who are also awaiting the final decision on the coveted awards.
The singer’s newest single from ‘Clancy’s Tavern’ is his recently released ‘Beers Ago,’ and in addition to his ACM nods he’s become quite a fan with the kids — many of whom we’ve seen singing along to his drinking hit in their own little voices. Whether it was this song or just an overall appreciation for the singer, Keith is also up for a Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award for Favorite Male Singer.
Keith’s appearance on ‘Ellen’ today was the first in a string of TV cameos. The 50-year-old is set to hit the ‘Tonight’ Show with Jay Leno tomorrow night (March 16) and then make an appearance on ‘Chelsea Lately’ March 27, wrapping with the ACM telecast April 1.
