Town Passes Law Putting Age Limit On Trick-Or-Treaters

When it comes down to how old is too old for kids to be Trick-Or-Treating on Halloween, there really aren't any set rules. Well, not until now. One town has just voted in a new bylaw banning kids past a certain age from Trick-Or-Treating. Technically, they already had the law, and it was even more strict than what they've decided on for this Halloween.

In Bathurst, a Canadian town in New Brunswick, the new bylaw forbids "anyone older than 16 from trick-or-treating and relaxes the curfew to 8 p.m" according to cbc.ca.

That's right, the previous bylaw banned any kids over 14 from Trick-Or-Treating and had a curfew of 7pm!

They're not playing around with this law either. Kids, or rather their parents, could face a pretty hefty fine if this law is broken.

Those caught with a facial disguise in public after curfew — like a zombie mask or witch's veil — or anyone over 16 found roaming the streets for treats can be fined up to $200.

So I guess residents of Bathurst will need to ID kids this Halloween to make sure they're not 16 years of age or older?

Look, I sort of see the point of this. We've all had kids show up at our doors for candy who have full beards and are driving themselves door-to-door. But, it's just candy. I'm not denying any kid who shows up at my house, but that's just me.
