Maybe it's just me but the passing of time as it relates to sports seems to slow down when it comes to football. For example, I can remember many a Friday night hearing of the exploits of an incredible athlete on the Jennings High School football team. That athlete's name is Travis Etienne. Last night I heard his name again as he was being selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He was incredible in high school. I would imagine there are some defenders who are still sore after attempting to tackle him all those years ago. I remember writing an article about how I wished that Etienne would have taken his talents to LSU for his college career. He didn't. Instead, Travis Etienne went on to excel at Clemson University.

Okay, excel isn't a strong enough word. Travis Etienne dominated at Clemson. He was the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year not once but twice. His talents served him well in college and the Jacksonville Jaguars must believe those talents will be more than serviceable in the NFL on Sundays.

Etienne, who was taken with the 25th overall pick by Jacksonville will be reunited with his college quarterback at Clemson Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence was chosen with the number one overall pick in last night's draft. But this isn't the only "former teammates" reunion that was created by last night's draft action.

In Cincinnati, former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, last year's number one overall pick, will be reunited with former Tiger teammate Ja'Marr Chase. Chase was chosen with the 5th overall pick in last night's selection show.

Jaylen Waddle and Tua Tagovailoa played college ball at Alabama, they'll be reunited in Miami with the Dolphins. And, another Alabama reunion will take place in Philly when Devonta Smith joins former teammate Jaylen Hurts in the NFL.

Congratulations to all the players who were chosen last night and to those who will be chosen this weekend. And especially congratulations to Travis Etienne and his family. I guess we will start to see a sudden uptick in interest in the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jeff Davis Parish over the next few years.
