A pilot and his passenger are lucky to be alive this morning. In fact, they are incredibly lucky because over the weekend the small plane they were in made a crash landing in a deeply wooded area of Calcasieu Parish.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says the plane went down late Saturday afternoon in a wooded area between Vinton Louisiana and the Texas line. Fortunately,  a CPSO aircraft was already in the air performing surveillance for the McNeese football game.

That CPSO aircraft was able to quickly locate the downed plane and help direct deputies and first responders on the ground to the scene of the crash rather quickly.

According to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso, both occupants of the aircraft were able to walk away from the crash none the worse for wear. Meanwhile, investigators are continuing to review the crash scene in hopes of finding out exactly what caused the private plane to crash.
