UL Encouraging Fans to Recycle at Home Games This Year
The University of Louisiana is doing their part to, as Alabama once sang, "leave some blue up above us, leave some green on the ground".
When the Ragin' Cajuns kick off the football season tomorrow against Southern at Cajun Field, it will also be a start of a new push to reduce waste.
Recycling and waste containers will be available at every tailgating spot and in other high-traffic areas, that according to Gretchen Vanicor, the University's Director of Sustainability.
"We're expanding our efforts to embrace a zero waste philosophy," said Vanicor. "It's not just about recycling materials, it's about reducing the waste stream altogether."
So when you're out at Cajun Field tomorrow, do your part. Green recycling bins and blue trash bins will be available around the tailgating spots. Inside the stadium, recycling materials go into the red containers, while trash should be thrown in the black containers.
The University is also competing in a national collegiate recycling contest called the Game Day Challenge. It will determine how much volume is collected at each home game and that data will be submitted for the contest.
By the way, kick-off is set for 6pm and tailgating has already started, so let's Geaux Green Cajun fans!
