Among the meats that Louisiana loves the best, you'd be hard-pressed to find one that is enjoyed more or in more different ways than pork. From Ville Platte and Mamou to the more urbanized areas of Baton Rouge and New Orleans pork is what's for dinner, snacks, and special occasions.

Here in Louisiana we "invite" our friend the pig to be a part of our sausage, boudin, cracklins, gumbos, roasts, and smoked meat recipes on a daily basis. If you look at the cost of a pound of cracklins at your favorite place, you can see those pigs are worth their weight in gold. Well, at least to many of our palates they are.

But not all the news about pork is good in Louisiana as we are waking up this morning. We have news that the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service has announced a product recall from Bonneval Foods, LLC based in Gonzales, Louisiana.

The USDA/FSIS recall states the recall from Bonneval Foods is because of misbranding and undeclared allergens on their 1.7-ounce plastic bags of Bonneval's BBQ Pork Skins.

The issue with the product was discovered during an FSIS in-plant verification inspection. Inspectors noted that soy and wheat, known allergens, were included as ingredients in a Worcestershire powder that is used as an ingredient in the BBQ Pork Skin product.

It was noted by FSIS Inspectors that the soy and wheat were not included on the finished product's label. As of now, there have been no reports of illness or injury caused by the product but anyone who may have consumed the product and has concerns should visit with a healthcare provider for guidance.

The USDA and the FSIS are encouraging those who have the product on hand to discard any unused portions. If you recall where you purchased the item you may return it to that location for a refund or exchange. Consumers who have questions or concerns about the product may contact Erik Bonneval, the owner of Bonneval Foods LLC via email at bonnevalfoods@yahoo.com.

Distribution of the BBQ Pork Skins was limited to retail locations in Louisiana. Although the company has announced it recently began selling products in Texas.
