The Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence, will be in Baton Rouge later today to meet with Governor John Bel Edwards and others concerning Louisiana's response and plans moving forward regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

The Vice President, the Governor, and others are expected to gather at a roundtable discussion at Tiger Stadium that will likely involve the state's plans for reopening higher education and college athletics later this fall.

Baton Rouge is one of three metropolitan areas in the nation selected to receive federal resources for surge testing. This comes as the state has seen a marked increase in COVID-19 cases over the past several weeks. Jacksonville Florida and Edinburg Texas are the other two communities selected for this additional federal support.

Following the discussions, the Vice President and the Governor are expected to participate in a press briefing. The details of when and where that briefing will be held will be released by the White House later today.
