Want to Hunt Some Nutria? Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries Will Pay You to Do So
If you've lived in Louisiana for a hot minute, you likely know a thing or two about those pesky little nutria rats. They have not been welcomed here for quite some time and you can do something to help with the problem.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is looking for trappers and hunters to help them with their Coastwide Nutria Control program.
This is where you can earn some extra dough by turning in nutria tails.
How much can you earn harvesting nutria rats for the Coastwide Nutria Control program?
Participants can earn $6 per nutria tail by delivering them to collection centers in coastal Louisiana.

The program aims to harvest up to 400,000 nutria to protect our coastal wetlands.
What are the requirements to participate in this program?
Below are the requirements for anyone wishing to participate in the program:
- Valid Louisiana Trapping License
- Permission to trap/hunt on appropriate land
- Complete legal property description and map
- W-9 Tax Form

You must apply by October 1 for processing by the season's start, which is November 20 - March 31.
