It is that time of year again. The time when Discovery Channel enlightens us about the scariest aquatic creature there is; atleast that's what I think. This week marks the 25th anniversary of Shark Week. Does Shark Week really scare beach vacationers from getting in the water?

A shark is like a big, scary, sharp toothed kitten...ok, maybe not a kitten but something feisty. I use to not be able to swim in the deep end of my own pool during Shark Week. Therefore, I most likely would not plan a beach vacation during Shark Week. When I do go to the beach I enjoy going pretty far out in the water, but I always have that slight fear in the back of my mind. The likeliness of being attacked by a shark is slim, but it could happen anytime. Unfortunately, bull sharks enjoy warm waters such as the Gulf of Mexico, so this does not help my fear when I am floating in Florida waters.

Even though all kinds of sharks seem scary, they are beautiful creatures. I would love to see a shark ONLY if I was on a BIG boat. Maybe one day, if I ever go to Australia or South Africa, I'll have the guts to get in one of those steel cage contraptions. Wouldn't it be awesome to see a great white shark jump out of the water to catch a seal?

A fun fact about Shark Week:  it now airs in 72 countries to raise awareness and respect for sharks. Watch Shark Week all this week!
