As the song says "Breaking Up is Hard to Do". Unfortunately, at some point in our lives, we'll have to deal with a broken heart.

Although time is really what it takes to get over someone, ice cream, lots of chips, and Reese's Peanutbutter Cups sure don't hurt.

Using Google trends, the team at USARx set out to uncover every state’s go-to break-up food, using lists of the best foods to consume post-heartbreak.

"We analyzed a combination of 30 sweet and savory dishes deemed as top breakup foods, according to sites like The Recipe, Bustle, and more. From there, we used Google Trends search volume from April 2021 to April 2022 in order to uncover the top searched breakup food in every U.S. state."

Burgers and candy topped the list overall for all 50 states.

However, chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese, and milkshakes were all some of the most popular choices for jilted lovers to drown their sorrows.

When it comes to Louisiana, we obviously have quite a few more choices than other states.

Boudin, gumbo, and bread pudding all seem like excellent choices for Louisiana breakup foods but, none of those showed up in the data.

Louisiana's top choice for healing a broken choice is...cake!

Tried and true, delicious cake is apparently the food we cry all over while screaming "Whhhhyyy???"
