They are the worst part about Summer. They are mosquitoes. They make a pleasant evening outside a miserable existence. There are a lot of ways we humans have come up with to keep the pesky bugs away from us. Some of them work really well, some of them not so good at all.

We all have experienced the red bump the biting mosquito leaves behind after it bites but what is really going on? Here is a close up video of what is actually happening under your skin. That brown needle looking thing is actually the mosquito's snout. The ice cube looking things are cells. The snout is probing the cells looking for a blood vessel so the insect can begin to feed.

To be honest this isn't for the squeamish but if you are a fan of nature and like seeing things really close here is your science fix of the day.
